Kim Cattralland her boyfriend, Russell Thomas, have been dating for almost seven years since first meeting in 2016.
Thomas, who is not a celebrity like Cattrall, tends to keep his personal life private, but the actress has shared some information about her beau in past interviews, as well as some tidbits about their relationship.
TheSex and the Citystarhas attributed their “meaningful” relationship to more than just luck. During an appearance onTheNew York Times’ Modern Lovepodcast during summer 2023, Cattrall talked about building a relationship with Thomas, calling it “hard work.”
“It’s not easy,” she said. “People feel that it’s something that happens, and you’re lucky. Luck is where preparation meets an opportunity. Andyou meet this person and the work is just begun, but it’s not a negative kind of work. This is good work.”

He worked at the BBC when they met

When Cattrall and Thomas crossed paths in 2016, Thomas was working as an audio engineer at the BBC, the actress explained to PEOPLE in a 2020 interview.
“We kind of liked each other, we kept in touch and then he came out to Vancouver,” she said. “It was very brave of himbecause we didn’t really know each other other than having a few meals together. But he came and we got along great and we’ve been together ever since!”
In a 2018 interview withGlamour, Cattrall said that when the two met they “liked each other,” adding that they followed each other on X (formerly known as Twitter) afterward.
“He direct messaged me,” she said. “It was very, very modern [and] it’s just been very easy.”
He’s British

One of the things that Cattrall and Thomas bonded over was their shared English background. Cattrall was born in Liverpool, England, and raised in Canada, and Thomas was born in Kent, England.
The actress told PEOPLE that she felt more connected to Thomas because of this. “It’s just so easy,” she said.
In a June 2023 interview withThe Times, Cattrall said, “My partner is British, so I think I feel more British.” She went on to say that they watchedKing Charles' coronationtogether, adding, “I loved it. Let’s face it, no one does it better."
The two even have a sweet British-inspired morning ritual: they start each day with a cup of tea. “It’s hot water over a tea bag, with milk, no sugar and exactly the right temperature,” theHow I Met Your Fatherstar explained to PEOPLE. “It’s very British!”
She added that not only do they have tea together every morning, but also after lunch. “I love him,” she said.
The pandemic helped take their relationship to the next level

Speaking withGlamour, Cattrall revealed that the couple kept their relationship long-distance for the first few years, and it was the COVID-19 pandemic that got them to move in together.
In a September 2020 interview with PEOPLE, Cattrall said that they quarantined together at her house in Vancouver, Canada. “From the beginning, [Russ] and I felt like we needed to get out of town, so we came up to my house in Canada," she explained.
For Cattrall, it was like coming home. “The mountains, the orcas, when I was a teenager I didn’t appreciate it. But now, they’re bringing me back," she said.
He’s younger than Cattrall

Thomas is 14 years younger than Cattrall.
Back in 2012, Cattrall starred in Noel Coward’sPrivate Liveswith Matthew Macfadyen, who is 18 years younger than her. When asked about their age gap in the play, she told theEvening Standardthat she didn’t see a problem with it.
“At a certain age, people merge, don’t they?” she said. “I don’t think in those terms anymore. Maybe I’ve lived longer and done more things, but I don’t see a difference on stage.”
His life is very different than Cattrall’s

Unlike Cattrall, Thomas is not a famous actor. In fact, he doesn’t seem to work in Hollywood at all.
Calling their relationship “really gradual,” the actress once said, “Our lives were so separate and so different.”
“It’s a nice life,” she added. “And I’m very grateful for that.”
They have a deep connection

Two years prior, in an interview withExtra, Cattrall said that the duo had “gotten to know each other intimately,” amid the COVID-19 pandemic, adding, “We love each other.”
“What I love about us at this moment is we have a connection,” she said. “There’s elements of art and war, but in a very loving way, so yes, it checks every box I’ve ever had and then some, so we’re real good.”
Cattrall was married three times before meeting Thomas, and when speaking to PEOPLE, she said, “He was worth waiting for.”
She shared, “I’m very comfortable around him. He’s a firecracker and he’s got a wicked sense of humor. And he’s easy on the eyes!”
