Rami Malektook alittle tumblefollowing his big night at theAcademy Awards.
Malek, 37, was fresh off aBest Actor winon Sunday when he fell from the stage into the audience area just after the broadcast wrapped.
In photographs of the tumble, the star did his best to hold on his Best Actor statue aloft. Hitting the ground, Malek looked surprised.
Paramedics were then called to treat the actor, who was moved into a chair in the front row and then onto a more private area backstage. Despite the fall, the actor did not show any outward signs of being injured as he spoke in the press room after the incident.
A rep for Malek did not respond to a request for comment.

“I may not have been the obvious choice, but I guess it worked out,” he said. “I think about what it would have been like to tell little bubba Rami that one day this might happen to him, and I think his curly-haired little mind would be blown. That kid was struggling with his identity, trying to figure himself out and I think to anyone struggling with theirs and trying to discover, their voice, listen, we made a film about a gay man, an immigrant who lived his life just unapologetically himself.”
Malek continued, “[It’s] proof that we’re longing for stories like this. I am the son of immigrants from Egypt, I’m a first-generation American. And part of my story is being written right now, and I could not be more grateful.”
The star has been making the awards show rounds this season, and also picked up a best actor win at the Golden Globes, theBAFTA Awardsand theScreen Actors Guild Awards.
The 91st Academy Awards were broadcast live from Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 24 on ABC.
