“The only complication, and I’m sorry if this is too much information, is that because we aren’t swimming pool people, neither of us owns a bathing suit,” she wrote. “So we waited till dark because I’m shy about my body, traipsed across the yard wrapped in towels, and inched our way into the 103-degree water in our birthday suits. It was absolute bliss—warm, bubbly bliss.”
The Food Network star assured her readers that this was not about to “devolve into a middle-aged Harlequin country romance.”

“That water is way too hot for any of that. We may be naked, but we typically just sit in the heavenly water, stare up at the smog-free sky, talk about our hopes, dreams, concerns, and fears…and laugh at the dogs,” she joked.
Her Basset Hounds are baffled because “they’ve never even seen [Ladd] without a shirt,” reveals Ree of her cattle-ranching husband.
“It’s been three or four months, and they still can not understand why a) mom and dad are naked, b) mom and dad crawl into a water hole in the ground and stay for 20 minutes, and c) mom and dad are naked,” she added.

During their renovation, Ree and Ladd thought they might like to have a pool. But because of the maintenance involved, which Ladd’s mom warned them about, and the fact that they’d been swimming together “approximately zero times” since they got married — they decided on a hot tub instead.
“The ghost of Nan’s old pool fortunately spoke into our ears from the backyard just before the backhoe broke ground last summer, and we thank our lucky stars we dodged that bullet,” wrote Ree.
Their new home, which is on the same Pawhuska, Okla. ranch where she raised her kids, will be the setting of the Drummond Christmas this year. Ree said she is so excited to host Christmas that she started setting her holiday table six weeks early.

She is setting spots for all of her children as she is “looking forward to all the kids coming home for the holidays.” Daughters Alex, 26, and Paige, 23, will be on the ranch. Plus sons Bryce, 21, and Todd, 19, and foster son Jamar Goff, 21, are all coming home from college for the holiday.
This Christmas is Ree and Ladd’s first since becoming empty nesters, and the Food Network star is proud of how she handled the year without any children living at home.
As Todd got ready to leave for school, Ree recalled that her “trepidation was extreme.” She continued, “Yet here Ladd and I are, with almost a year of empty-nesting under our belts, and we are still living and breathing (and eating!)”
