At least 26 people were killed in Mexico over the weekend after a passenger van collided with a freight truck, authorities said.The accident occurred in the northern Mexico state of Tamaulipas near the capital of Ciudad Victoria on Sunday afternoon, when the two vehicles crashed and caught on fire, the Tamaulipas public security ministry said,according to Reuters.When first responders arrived at the accident along the Victoria-Zaragoza highway, they found that the cab of the truck was no longer at the scene, prompting authorities to believe the driver may have fled, a source in the Tamaulipas prosecutor’s office told the outlet....

According to Hoglund, the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Zephen Xaver, allegedly called 911 at shortly after 12 p.m. to report he had entered a SunTrust bank and started shooting. The suspect is now in custody, Hoglund said. The number of injuries was not immediately clear....

On May 7, the young sea otter pup was found stranded alongside her mother in San Luis Obispo County. According to rescuers on the scene, it looked as though mom had sustained serious shark bite injuries. The mother otter had expelled a great deal of energy in her efforts to get her offspring safely to shore. Sadly, the heroic otter mom lost a lot of blood and did not survive the emergency trip to the Marine Mammal Center hospital only 30 miles away....
