Her name may be Midnight, but a black lab mix from Minnesota saved the day last week.
Tim Curfman’s neighbor Noreen accidentally fell into the snow and was unable to get up during one of thecoldest weeks in state history. Fortunately for her, Midnight came to her rescue and saved Noreen from what could have been a potentially deadly situation.
Curfman, of Alexandria, was taking the trash out on the frigid morning of Jan. 28 alongside his 4-year-old pup when she began to act differently than normal, CBS Minnesotareported.
“She had her ears perked up looking at me. She doesn’t normally do that,” Curfman told the outlet, adding that he had a strange feeling that something was up.
“We figured she was out there at least a half an hour,” Curfman told the outlet, explaining that Noreen had accidentally fallen as she tried to refill her bird feeder on a day where temperatures had already dropped below zero.
“She could not have gotten up because her gloves had gotten wet and she didn’t have enough strength in her fingers to push herself up,” he added. “Nothing on the garage to get ahold of and on the corner to get up and get a hold of either.”
Because Noreen was in the extreme cold for so long, she risked getting hypothermia, which occurs when your body loses heat faster than it can produce, according toMayo Clinic.
Luckily, it did not come to that, and Curfman immediately sprung into action and helped Noreen get out of the snow. Once inside the house, his wife helped change her into dry, warm clothes.

Noreen, fortunately, did not suffer any serious injuries or experience frostbite or hypothermia — but her health and safety were all thanks to Midnight, Curfman, and their timely rescue.
“We’ve been very proud of her because it’s not every dog that pays attention to things like this,” Curfman told the outlet of his beloved pet.
“And she got so many treats,” he jokingly added, as he laughed with his furry companion.
The extreme freeze that blasted the Midwest last week caused school closures, record-breaking low temperatures and a rare suspension of the U.S. Postal Service.
Some temperatures in the Midwest were evencolder than parts of Antarctica and Alaska.
