Lady Gagahas been preparing for her Oscar-winning moment since she was a kid.
“I’ve had a job since I was 14-years-old because I wanted more money than my allowance,” Gaga, 32, explained, adding that she worked as a hostess at a restaurant where her parents would often hang out at the bar.
“Sometimes no one would be coming in the restaurant, and I’d be standing there with nothing to do,” she continued. “And I would just go, ‘I’d like to thank the Academy for this tremendous honor. I’ve wanted to be an actress my whole life.’ I would practice my acceptance speech and everyone at the bar would howl with laughter like, ‘That’s never gonna happen.’ “
In her actual acceptance speech on Sunday, the singer teared up as she thanked those that are closest to her andBradley Cooperfor believing in her as his costar inA Star Is Born.

“My family is here, I love you, mom and dad,” she continued. “Bradley, there is not a single person on the planet that could’ve sung this song with me but you. Thank you for believing in us, thank you so much.”

“If you are at home and sitting on your couch watching this right now, all I have to say is this is hard work,” she added. “I have worked hard for a long time, and it is not about winning, but it’s about not giving up. If you have a dream, fight for it. There’s a discipline for passion, and it’s not about how many times you get rejected or you fall down or beaten up, it’s about how many times you stand up and are brave. Thank you.”
“Shallow” marked Gaga’s second nomination in the Best Original Song category following 2016’s “Til It Happens to You” fromThe Hunting Ground. She was also nominated for Best Actress forA Star Is Bornbut lost toThe Favourite‘s Olivia Colman.
