Jenny Slateis getting candid about her wardrobe mishap at the 2023 Oscars.
During her appearance on Tuesday’s episode ofJimmy Kimmel Live!, the 41-year-old actress recounted the incident that occurred during last year’s awards ceremony. Slate revealed that shortly after arriving at the event, her dress (which she was sewn into) unexpectedly split.
“It was like, bah bah bah bah,” she humorously described to Kimmel, 56, recalling the moment. “And guess what was exposed? My butt.”
“I’d say it was half-crack,” she continued, playfully noting the extent of the wardrobe malfunction.

Coincidentally, as this happened, Slate shared that the Academy was announcing the award for best animated feature, a category for which her filmMarcel the Shell with Shoes Onhad been nominated. Upon learning that she hadn’t won, she admitted to feeling relieved, knowing she wouldn’t have to take the stage in her compromised attire.
Finding themselves without seats, they moved to a different spot, ironically more visible to the camera. “I’m like, ‘I should just go. Let’s get out of here, man. My butt’s out, and I lost, which is fine,’ " she continued. Despite the mishap, Slate realized she was experiencing a career highlight, being involved in two significant films.

Despite the initial embarrassment, Slate’s spirits were lifted when her other film,Everything Everywhere All at Once, won best picture. She described how she made her way onto the stage, carefully holding her dress together, to join her colleagues in celebration.
“I was like, ‘I’m here, I’m back here, thank you so much.’ And then, as I waddled off holding my butt closed, I saw you,” she said, addressing Kimmel, who was present at the event but unaware of her predicament.
“I never know when people’s butts are out,” Kimmel quipped in response. “It’s one of my things.”

She added how she rode the way drive in a sprinter van to not wrinkle her dress.
She continued, “But we show up at the Hollywood Bowl. I don’t know that’s just not where the Oscars are.”
