Howard Sternhas been a father since 1983.
Despite Howard’s usual openness about the personal details of his life, he has only briefly spoken about his divorce. “I was never really that comfortable discussing my divorce with the audience,” he toldRolling Stonein 2011. “My ex-wife isn’t a bad person. She’s a really good person and we have three great children, and that is such a private matter for me. If it was my matter alone, I would discuss it, but there are other people involved.”
He also told the outlet he was proud of his daughters, saying, “They’re all very good students. I’m very proud of them. They’re great kids.”

Emily Beth Stern, 40

Howard and Alison welcomed their first child, Emily, in 1983.
Emily toldThe Jewish Journalin 2008 that growing up, she was always discouraged from listening to her dad’s talk show, but she did sneak in a few listens when she was a teenager.
“I remember being like, ‘That isn’t my dad. Who is this?’ " she told the outlet. “Then once I reached the age when it was maybe acceptable to listen … it really just wasn’t what I was interested in, in seeing my dad that way, and also the content.”
In 2015, Emily spoke candidly to theNew York Postabout her life and upbringing. She explained that “my dad’s emphasis on sexuality [in his career] kept me out of the dating ring [when I was younger].”
She also reflected on her parents’ divorce, saying, “I believed that my parents were very much in love. I felt like the divorce came out of nowhere. I thought that sacred bond was so strong.”
After earning a BFA in drama from New York University, Emily briefly pursued acting before studying religion. According to herThe Jewish Journalauthor page, she is a Rabbinic student in the Aleph Ordination Program and an ordained Mashpia, a Jewish spiritual director.
Although she grew up Jewish, her family wasn’t very religious. However, the family did practice transcendental meditation, which they all continue to do to this day.
While speaking to theNew York Post, Emily added that although she has chosen a more religious lifestyle, she is still “close with both my parents.”
Emily regularly posts her prayers and poetry on herInstagram accountand shares her photography on herpersonal website, too.
Debra Jennifer Stern, 37
Howard’s second daughter, Debra, was born in 1986. Debra has largely remained out of the spotlight.
During his 2011Rolling Stoneinterview, Howard shared that one of his daughters lived in San Francisco. “She’s working in the school systems there,” he said, before adding of his children, “It’s their lives and they’re not comfortable being spoken about.”
Debra is currently married to her husband, Colin Christy, and they share one daughter.
Ashley Jade Stern, 30

Howard and Alison welcomed their youngest daughter, Ashley, in 1993. She was 8 years old when her parents divorced.
Ashley doesn’t have any public social media profiles and has stayed out of the public eye in adulthood. However, as a teen, she did attend a handful of events alongside her family including a screening ofThe Twilight Saga: New Moonin 2009.Additionally, she has been photographed with her stepmother, Beth, numerous times at New York Knicks games.
In June 2023, Ashley married her husband Adam Weinstein. Howard discussed the wedding on an episode ofThe Howard Stern Showthat month, calling it a “very emotional weekend.”
Debra’s young daughter served as the flower girl, though she adorably forgot to throw the petals as she walked down the aisle. “So cute,” Howard said of the moment.
