Working at a call centersucks . Like , ituniversally sucks , and everybody knows it . That ’s what makes the story of the loyal New York City employee whowas just suspend for 20 daysfor allegedly answering incoming vociferation with a robot voice so thwarting . C’m on guy rope , let the bored employee have a small fleck of merriment .
The call center worker , a Brooklyn - native identify Robert Dillon , enunciate he was just trying to do his job well . The city ’s Health Department , where Dillon has worked since 1976 without a single disciplinary job , argues that the employee was speaking to customers in a “ dense , droning and over - sound out manner . ” That ’s how robots blab , evidently .
This may have been partially true . One concerned citizencalled in to saythat “ a novel automated answering system of rules … had hung up when she heard ‘ the robot ’ answer the phone because she postulate to speak to a human about her issues . ” Dillon , the employee who answered the call , is in spades a human . He is also a human who says he was just following ordering . “ They object to the tone of my vocalism so I made it atonal , ” he said . The judge explained further in her decision , “ [ Dillon ] contended that he articulate each Son because he speaks fast and has a Brooklyn accent , which is sometimes difficult to understand . ”

As someone who ’s live in Brooklyn for over five year , I can confirm that this fact is true . The accent can be hard ! Nevertheless , the judge ultimately decided that Dillon was just another dissatisfied employee and ruled that he receive a 31 - day hiatus . That was after reduce to 20 - days .
All that said , one can only wonder how long it will take the Health Department to fire all of its human employee and replace them with robot . Because that form of thing really is happeningthese days .
